A picture of Welch (Main Street) that was taken in
1946. The photo is very much the way John Babb remembered the
town from the late 50's.
I'm sure that some of you reading this
will remember the picture as he does and can also relate to
his memories of Welch, W.Va.
As John remembers, He'd catch
the bus most every Saturday and go into Welch for a movie at
the Pocahontas Theater. They held a sock hop there in the morning (on
the stage) . . . the hop would always start and end when they
played "The Happy Organ" by Dave Cortez. The show would then
start at 1:00. After the movie we would wait for the bus at a
record shop around the corner next to the bus station. The record shop
would always be playing the latest 45 RPM hits over a loud speaker.
Thanks John for sharing your Sat Morning Memory with the Gary Coaldiggers,
