GARY'S INCORPORATION
This picture and the next one has been sent by Jim well's He said. "I found these in my Dad's stuff the other day. Dad was James L. "jack" or "cap" Wells who was in charge of Plant Protection for US Steel. The picture of all the folks at the top of the main road, the Catholic Church and Main Office would be off to the left as you look at it and Red Cross Street is off to the right, was taken by USS for an ad which appeared in "Newsweek" and "Time" magazine in 1974 or 1975 when Gary incorporated. I only have the black and white version--apparently sent to Dad by the Ad agency or someone in USS's marketing dept from Pittsburgh. The other may or may not have been used. My Mom is on the far right in the dark coat next to Patsy Witten. Dad is in the rear with the dress hat on. Jim Wells

Elbert School
I have labeled this picture as Elbert School it's NOT the school , the photo is of what we would call today the community center, at the time it housed a movie theater, bowling alley/pool hall, dance hall , company guard office, post office, barber shop, restaurant/beer joint and was a general meeting place. The school is located about a half mine up the street. They do have a sign that says School. Thanks to BG for the info.
